Description Our Lady of Nazareth, in Roanoke, seeks a Coordinator of Music to plan, coordinate and oversee the vibrant music program (liturgies and choirs). The successful candidate is proficient in accompanying music and vocal techniques, knowledge in Roman Catholic liturgy, and possesses the ability to work collaboratively with parish staff and volunteers. This is a full time position that begins September 2025.
Coordinator of Music is directly responsible for the planning, coordinating and overseeing the vibrant music program at Our Lady of Nazareth. This includes the musicians, choirs and cantors. Weekend, Holy Day, Sacramental and Liturgical celebrations where music is requested are the responsibility of this position.
Responsibilities and Tasks:
- Planning liturgical music for all Masses, Holy Days, special liturgical celebrations, weddings and funerals, Holy Days and other Special Liturgies in collaboration with the pastor, staff, and the worship committee. Flexibility for special events is required.
- Responsible for the comprehensive development, coordination, and oversight of liturgical music in the parish and maintaining an up to date music library.
- Establishing a schedule and leading rehearsals for the Adult and Children's choirs.
- Scheduling the maintenance of musical instruments and equipment.
- Manages and maintains the budget for the Music, Liturgy and Audio Visual needs
Requirements Qualifications: - Bachelor's Degree in Music or equivalent experience
- Master's Degree or substantial experience will be considered a Director
- Proficiency in accompanying instruments (piano/organ) and vocal techniques.
- Strong knowledge of Roman Catholic liturgy.
- VIRTUS training and background check required.
- Knowledge of and comfort with Catholic Church music literature in all forms and styles (traditional, contemporary, praise and worship) for congregation and choirs (adult and children).
- Strong organizational, managerial, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with clergy, staff, parish committees, and volunteers.
- Understanding of, and willingness to support Catholic Church teaching, mission, and values.
Working Conditions: This is a fulltime (40 hours per week), salaried position. Hours include weekends and some nights; time off during the week will be given to compensate. An office will be provided on site. Travel reimbursements shall be offered in accord with Diocesan guidelines. The Coordinator of Music has the talents and time of the assistant music minister and the parish secretary at his/her disposal to be established with approval of the pastor.
