Description
Under the general supervision of the Director, Nursing & Operations, Perioperative Services, the incumbent will work with the other leaders to develop strategies, plans and outcomes to best meet the needs of all stakeholders, including clinicians and staff. Standards and policies as well as Human Resources are available when guidance is indicated.
\nThe unit Director, Main Operating Room is responsible for the fiscal, human resources, clinical, materials management, and communication operations of the nursing/outpatient units. The Director, Main Operating Room’s professional role description is based on ANA’s Nursing Administration’s Scope of Standards and UCLA’s Nursing Professional Practice Model.
\nThe Unit Director, Main Operating Room for RR Main OR oversees all aspects of operations. The incumbent shall support workflow optimization for staff and patients. The primary responsibilities include:
\n● Support creating capacity and volume of surgical cases
\n● Direct supervision for the clinical nurse leaders (AN II) and support services leaders (MSO), including a focus on coaching to develop problem-solving skills that will maximize quality, efficiency, and throughput
\n● Fill open/vacancy clinical positions
\n● Support education, operations, and maximize communication with staff through various methods including weekly staff meetings, daily huddles, active daily management rounds
\n● Bring ideas and processes for improvement to the Sr. Director, Medical Director, and Director, Nursing & Operations
\n● Support the clinical nurse leaders through challenging situations, focusing on coaching and support to develop their leadership skills
\n● Create and manage plans for increasing efficiency, and improving quality.
\n● Review and support the onboarding plans for new hires, and cross-training of staff into services
\n● Assist in development and implementation of staffing plans, fiscal management, and monitoring environmental safety
\n● In collaboration with the Medical Director and Scheduling department, work with clinical nurse leaders who review and approve the OR surgical schedule. Support creating capacity and volume of surgical cases
\n● Review and enhance clinical processes and workflow to meet the needs of surgical departments and divisions. Develop collaborative relationships with surgical department and division CAO and chairs/leaders to obtain regular feedback. Bring ideas and processes for improvement to the Sr. Director, Medical Director, Director, Nursing & Operations, and Sr. Director Operative Services
\n \n● Optimize daily workflow by assessing work assignments. Engage with the OR Charge Nurse to optimize the efficiency of the department and support throughput as necessary
