Job Description

Job Summary:

Sets up, sanitizes, and efficiently operates a fluid milk filler in order to fill plastic gallon and ½ gallon jugs with fluid product. Also makes all manual connections from the tank to the Filler Machine, assembles all necessary packaging materials, assembles labels on the labeling machine, assembles the date code on the date code machine, and keeps accurate records of production output, weights, changeovers, wash-outs, between production runs, lost product, and downtime. Meets I-85 agendas and processes while working safely.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Sets up, sanitizes, and operates the fillers safely and efficiently.
  • Ensures that the finished bottled product has the correct code date, label, cap, and proper weight.
  • Informs supervision or lead persons of out-of-spec items.
  • Makes all manual connections from the desired product tank to the filler in a sanitary manner.
  • Controls product loss and keeps it to a minimum.
  • Assembles correct packaging materials prior to operating the filler.
  • Performs changeovers from product to product on the fillers.
  • Keeps accurate records of runs, weights, washouts between products, changeovers, lost product, and downtime.
  • Meets I-85 agendas and processes while working safely.
  • Hand cleans and operates C.I.P. equipment to wash the fillers at the end of a production day’s run.
  • Maintains the filler area in a clean and orderly fashion.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Clears jams out of the Caser/Stacker equipment.
  • Clears product at the end of a production run out of the Caser/Stacker equipment.
  • Keeps track of milk and product needed to complete the run and informs supervision or lead persons of any issues.

Degree of Responsibility Exercised in position:

The efficient operation of the Filler bottling operation is essential to the overall success of the plant. If these fillers do not operate efficiently, the Blowmold Operation, the Processing Operation, the Milk Receiving Operation, and the Loadout Operation will be shut down. If the operator does not maintain proper weight control measures, the plant could be subject to regulatory penalties. The success of CFD’s shelf life is determined a great deal by how well the Filler operators follow the quality guidelines that are in place.

Education, Prior Work Experience, Specialized Skills, Knowledge:

  • The ability to read and understand the daily Filler Production Schedule is vital.
  • The ability to record the proper weight control data on the Filler Weight Control forms is necessary.
  • Must be able to read, write, add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
  • The ability to operate a pallet jack is necessary.
  • The ability to solve basic math problems is necessary.
  • Ability to work well with others and communicate issues and needs in a professional manner.

Essential Physical Elements:

  • Stand/walk up to 12 hours.
  • Ability to lift bottles of product weighing approximately 10 lbs.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stack objects from 36lbs to 38 lbs.
  • Push and empty trash dumpsters.
  • Ability to distinguish colors and shapes.
  • Must be able to climb steps and ladders.
  • Medium hand/eye coordination.
  • Must be able to put product pipes together.

Safety:

  • Understand and follow the recommended safe procedures to avoid those hazards specifically listed on the JSA for this job.
  • Follow the Departmental Safe Practices posted in this job’s area; this includes wearing all required Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Follow all plant safety rules and procedures.
  • Actively participate in the BAPP program.

Quality:

Follow all departmental Good Manufacturing Practices: no candy or gum allowed in the production area; hairnets, safety steel toed shoes, and bread nets (if applicable) must be worn in all production areas; no false eyelashes, false finger nails, finger nail polish or heavy makeup; no jewelry of any kind; no eating in production areas; CFD (clean) uniform must be worn.

  • Will follow established programs, policies, and practices to produce safe, quality foods that meet regulatory and company requirements.
  • Will be accountable to the Kroger Manufacturing Food Safety and Quality Principles.
  • Will support the development, implementation, maintenance, and ongoing improvement of the SQF 2000 Systems.
  • Back up for the Filler Operator in the SQF process is the Production Supervisor.

Reliability:

  • Must monitor and report pthe performance of equipment to the supervisor.
  • Must participate in and contribute to problem-solving teams.
  • Must accurately report data.
  • Assist or perform PM’s to the level to which training has been completed.
  • Machine Operators to run lines at target rates at all times.
