Legal Senior Counsel, Market Access at Vertex Pharmaceuticals Vertex is a transformative biotechnology company that creates new possibilities in medicine to cure diseases and improve people’s lives. We are seeking a solutions‑oriented healthcare attorney to provide proactive strategic and tactical legal support to the business. Vertex currently has four drugs on the market that treat the underlying cause of cystic fibrosis and a deep pipeline investing billions of dollars into R&D over the past two decades. Key Responsibilities Provide expert advice and counseling to business partners on a broad array of market access, government pricing, and policy topics. Advise business partners on commercial initiatives in a way that advances the company’s strategy while addressing legal risks and protecting the company’s integrity and reputation. Offer legal guidance on market access and reimbursement issues, including contracting with distribution partners, anti‑kickback statute compliance, Medicaid, Medicare, 340B, Veterans Health Care Act, government pricing reporting, CMS regulations, and state drug pricing transparency laws. Collaborate with legal colleagues in commercial, pipeline, privacy, and other functions to ensure comprehensive legal advice. Review materials for internal and external use as needed. Contribute to Legal & Compliance Department projects and initiatives, participate in committees, and share knowledge through presentations and discussions. Qualifications, Professional Skills, And Preferred Experience JD from an ABA‑accredited law school. Member of a state bar. Minimum of 8 years post‑JD experience advising on legal matters in a life‑sciences space, either in a law firm or in‑house in biopharmaceuticals. 3 years of law firm experience in a fast‑paced environment. Experience advising on statutes, regulations, and guidance applicable to market access activities, including federal and state anti‑kickback statutes, Medicaid, 340B, Veterans Administration, state drug pricing transparency laws, OIG guidance, and the False Claims Act. Outstanding communication skills with lawyers and non‑lawyers, strong business acumen, and advanced contracting and redlining skills. Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and organizational skills; ability to manage outside counsel and adhere to a budget. Desired: experience providing legal advice on cell and gene therapies and/or specialty medicines. Pay Range $212,800 - $319,200 Disclosure Statement The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job‑related factors permitted by law. Flex Designation Remote‑Eligible: work remotely five days per week and come into the office on occasion – always welcome on‑site; or select. Hybrid: work remotely up to two days per week; or select. On‑Site: work five days per week on‑site with ad‑hoc flexibility.
