JOB TITLE: Interpreter III, Historic Forestville

Historic Forestville, 21899 County Road 118, Preston, MN 55965


COMPENSATION:
Typical starting range $20.16 - $21.71 hourly


STATUS & HOURS:
Part-time, regular (approximately 416 annual hours) position.


BENEFITS:
Eligible to participate in a retirement program with employer contribution. Generous vacation and sick time accruals.

DESCRIPTION: This position exists to educate and entertain visitors to Historic Forestville as well as develop some programs under the direction of the Program Supervisor.


SUMMARY OF WORK:
1) Deliver programs, tours and assist in the creation of programs; 2) Receive, welcome and orient visitors to the historic site or museum and its exhibits, programs, and services; and 3) Assist in the daily operations of the historic site program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma plus one year experience leading historic interpretive tours or equivalent.

  • Proven customer service skills in working with a diverse public, including children, teachers, senior citizens, people with disabilities, persons of different ethnic or cultural background, people of color, and professionals.

  • Excellent oral communication skills.

  • Ability to listen to members of the public and be responsive to inquiries and comments

  • Ability to master program information and present it according to interpretive or learning objectives.

  • Mastery of a wide variety of interpretive techniques.

  • Mastery of a skilled craft and the ability to clearly explain it to the public.

  • Ability to multi-task in a dynamic and demanding environment.

  • Must be able to develop and maintain excellent relations with individuals and groups specific and not specific to the site’s history.

  • Ability to work effectively with limited supervision.

  • Ability to speak in public, in order to interpret the history of the site and to promote its programs and effectively communicate with individuals and groups.

  • Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.

  • Knowledge and ability to work with historic collections, and materials.

  • Ability to conduct research.

  • Ability to be physically active and mobile for up to 8-hours per day.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends from April-October.


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of Minnesota History.

  • Knowledge of museum education and interpretive methods.
