Part of News Corp, The Sun is a global publisher and one of the biggest news brands in the UK. Our talented and diverse team publishes the best coverage of news, sport, TV, showbiz, consumer and lifestyle.

In early 2020 we launched a US edition and have built the newspaper into a 140+ business and the fastest growing news site in the US.

We are now looking for a freelance reporter to join a growing consumer team of seven, with opportunities to convert the role into a staff position if desired.

The ideal candidate is a dynamic reporter who thrives in a fast-paced digital news environment, and who has an interest in personal finance. The candidate can either be a consumer specialist, or a general reporter looking to specialize.

The role reports to the Consumer Editor.

The office is based in Midtown and offers a supportive staff culture in a team that is continuously expanding. Although we run a hybrid schedule, the candidate will be expected to be on-site in the office for most of the week. Must be available to work weekends.

Pay Rate: $200 - $250 per day

Key Skills and Experience:

• 1+ years of full-time newsroom experience
• Knowledge of consumer, personal finance or money-saving topics and documented experience reporting on those topics (online or print)
• Ability to write about complex subjects in an accessible way
• Understanding of where to source money-saving stories that would benefit our readers
• Solid understanding of SEO and social media
• Comfortable working quickly and collaboratively as part of a fast-paced team
• Able to thrive in a busy newsroom and “breaking news” environment
