The Compliance Counsel is responsible to oversee the legal department of the business. The Compliance Counsel provides senior management with advice on company legal strategies and their implementation, manages the internal legal function, and obtains and oversees the work of outside counsel.

ABI Document Support Services is seeking a licensed attorney to join the team as a Compliance Counsel . It is highly preferred that this person work a remote/ hybrid schedule out of either the Loma Linda, CA or Lake Mary, FL office.

The Compliance Counsel is responsible to oversee the legal department of the business. The Compliance Counsel provides senior management with advice on company legal strategies and their implementation, manages the internal legal function, and obtains and oversees the work of outside counsel.

Essential Job Functions

• Performing a detailed, comprehensive review of company operations and making recommendations to business leadership for best practices.
• Advising on individual state and federal rules of civil procedure as-related to subpoenas/discovery requests and operational monitoring for compliance with same.
• Monitoring changes to state and federal rules of civil procedure as related to subpoenas/discovery and implementing operational changes accordingly.
• Training/educating operations teams on applicable subpoena/discovery rules and procedures.
• Working with corporate counsel to advise on HIPAA/health privacy laws/requirements and ensuring operational compliance with same.
• Training/education operations teams on privacy-related law and issues.
• Establishing best practices/protocols for effective communication and workflow between company departments.
• Interacting with clients and/or attorneys.
• Working with corporate legal to oversee litigation and motion-related practice involving the company Document Retrieval and managing outside counsel on said matters.
• Traveling, as needed, for on-site visits to various office locations.
• Working with corporate legal on negotiation of customer contracts/ reviewing and advising business team on customer contracts.

Qualifications

• A Juris Doctorate Degree required
• 3 plus years of litigation experience required and experience with subpoenas, discovery requests, and related motions a must.
• A member in good standing with any United States state bar, but preference for California or Florida admission.
• Some familiarity with HIPAA/health privacy laws/ a willingness to learn.
• Some contract experience.
• Ability to stay highly organized.
• Ability to travel domestically on an as-needed basis.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Must be able to work well under pressure and or stressful conditions.
• Ability to follow all company policies and procedures in effect at time of hire and as they may change or be added from time to time.
