The Horticulture Operations Coordinator plays a vital role in the daily operations and greenspace management of the Chadwick Arboretum and Learning Gardens. Under the supervision of the Horticulture Manager, this position supports the planning, coordination, and execution of horticultural and landscape maintenance activities. The role involves collaboration with CFAES Operations, faculty, staff, students, and volunteers to ensure the Arboretum remains a vibrant, educational, and ecologically sound space. Key Responsibilities include coordinating and assisting with the maintenance of gardens, plots, lawns, and green infrastructure; supporting seasonal garden design and planning, including container displays and color rotations; leading the Annual Cultivar Trial Program, including seed propagation, plant evaluation, and volunteer coordination; assisting with greenhouse operations, including watering, maintenance, and Integrated Pest Management (IPM); maintaining plant labeling, GIS/database records, and accessioning; mentoring and training students, interns, volunteers, and Master Gardeners in horticultural best practices; supporting research, teaching, and outreach programs within the Arboretum; evaluating and implementing operational improvements, including project planning and procurement; operating and maintaining horticultural equipment and tools; collaborating with CFAES units and providing backup support across horticulture and environmental facilities. Minimum Required Qualifications: High School diploma or GED, certification or vocational training may be required, 4 years of relevant horticultural or landscape management experience. Preferred Qualifications: Associate degree in horticulture, landscape management, or a related field, 6 or more years of relevant experience, experience with greenhouse operations, irrigation systems, and ecological landscape practices, strong organizational and leadership skills, especially in coordinating volunteers and student workers, familiarity with GIS, plant databases, and plant accessioning systems.
