Summary of Functions

Under the direction of the Grounds Manager and Landscaping Supervisor; performs professional tree, shrub, plant, and flower maintenance including but not limited to; fertilizing pruning and trimming.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Oversees the planting, pruning, topping, felling, cabling, and climbing trees.
• Creates, directs, and implements tree and plant spray programs.
• Plans, plants, and maintains all flower beds.
• Operates power saws and spraying equipment.
• Inspects trees, develop a tree inventory, and determines appropriate maintenance action.
• Advises and assists in turf management.
• Recommends new equipment and requisitions supplies.
• Prepares information for budget requests.
• Create and maintain records and reports for arborist maintenance program.
• Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as needed.
• Maintain a consistent and regular attendance record.
• Available and willing to work any changes in hours deemed necessary for Project Levels.
• May be required to be a panelist for the Internal Review Hearings.
• Effective time management – ability to prioritize and organize own work, coordinate projects, meet deadlines, and follow-up on assignments

Supervisory Responsibilities

• This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education

• Either (a) Bachelor’s Degree in forestry, horticulture, urban forestry or a closely related field; or (b) an Associate’s Degree in forestry, horticulture, urban planning, or a closely related field and two years of experience in tree work including climbing and spraying trees; or (c) completion of high school level vocational course in tree work and four years of varied experience in tree work including climbing and spraying trees, or (d) a satisfactory equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (a), (b) and (c).

Qualifications

• Experience in sustainable planting of indigenous plants.

Certificated, Licenses, Regulations

• Must be an ISA certified Arborist.
• Master Gardener Certification preferred.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a tribal work permit.
• Valid driver’s license (Must be in possession while operating a Tribal vehicle.)

• Occasionally requires raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to the outside environmental conditions and is not protected from weather conditions. The worker is exposed to working in extreme weather extremes including cool and wet, and hot and dry conditions. The worker is frequently exposed to working on wet grass which can be slippery to walk on. The worker is exposed to moving mechanical parts, vehicle emissions, mechanical noises, and airborne particles. The worker is also exposed to potentially hazardous chemicals, fuels, fertilizers and other materials used in the maintenance of grounds, trees, and/or plants.

Travel Requirements

Local travel is occasionally required. Travel outside of the state is infrequently required. Typical travel time is generally less than a week.
